Amateur. From the Latin “amator:” lover, devoted friend, devotee, enthusiastic pursuer of an objective.

Why the “Aperture Amateur”?  While photography is not my full-time profession (I’m a scientist by day), I do consider myself to be a professional photographer.  I’ve had a camera in hand for over 25 years now and I strive to produce and market professional quality images.  I’ve chosen the word “amateur” here to reflect my motivation to keep learning all that I can about the craft and the business of photography.

I hope to use this blog to share what I’ve learned (and am still learning) about the world of digital photography.  I’m a Canon shooter and Mac user so I’ll focus on these tools as well as the other gadgets in my arsenal.

Best wishes on your continued success!

Jarrod
